About WideHoly
Making the sacred writings of humanity accessible to every person, in their own language, without barriers.
By the Numbers
Our Mission
WideHoly was built on a simple conviction: the most important texts ever written should be freely available to everyone. Sacred scriptures have guided billions of people across thousands of years — and yet access to them in one's own language, with thoughtful tools for study, has never been universal.
We provide scripture from the world's five major religions — Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Hinduism, and Buddhism — through six dedicated sites. Each site is built to serve both believers and curious learners, with multiple translations, parallel reading views, concordances, and cross-references.
Cross-Religion Understanding
One of WideHoly's distinctive offerings is the exploration of themes and figures that cross religious boundaries. Prophets like Abraham, Moses, and Jesus appear in multiple traditions. Universal themes like prayer, charity, fasting, and the Golden Rule are taught by every major religion. By surfacing these shared dimensions, WideHoly helps readers discover the common ground beneath the differences.
This is not to paper over genuine differences — each tradition has its own integrity and must be understood on its own terms. But comparative study, done carefully, builds understanding and respect.
Open Access & Technology
All scripture on WideHoly is freely available through our public REST API. Researchers, developers, and educators are welcome to build on our data. The API provides access to verses, chapters, translations, cross-references, and metadata across all five traditions.
Every page is also available in Markdown format (add .md to any URL) for AI assistants and language models, following the LLMs.txt standard.
