Jacob / Yaqub / Yaakov
The third Patriarch whose name was changed to Israel after he wrestled with God at the Jabbok River, father of the twelve sons who became the twelve tribes of Israel. His life of struggle, deception, and ultimate reconciliation mirrors the collective experience of the people who bear his name. In Islam, Ya'qub is a prophet and his story of separation from his beloved son Yusuf is told with great pathos.
